Fly Fishing Adventures in Scotland 2026

The end of another Brown Trout Season and it has been one of the best ever but you always have to look to the future and with that in mind it got me thinking what matters most on a fishing trip? Is it catching fish or enjoying the moment?

A time to relax and enjoy the atmosphere.
A time to relax and enjoy the atmosphere.

It's time to reflect and think about what I put in and what clients get out of my fishing trips. Yes everyone loves to catch fish there is no question in that but sometimes are we focused so much on catching we don't see what's in front of us. Scotland is not only beautiful but is constantly changing due to its seasons and every day is different. One day blowing a gale with torrential rain the next 30 degrees with not a cloud in the sky!. And always we expect to catch fish? and if we do we are the best angler ever and if we don't we tend to blame the wind, sun, rain, flies, gear, over fishing anything we can. But put simply should we not just be enjoying the fishing, wildlife and scenery and if we bump into a few fish along the way even better.

A lot of people ask me when is the best time to visit? when will I catch the most fish? My response is always lets just go and see what happens! as there is only two things I can't control the fish and the weather!

Planning a trip for clients is always extremely important to me. I need to think about where I am picking them up in relation to where I am taking them as nobody like to be stuck in car for longer than they need to be. What venue best suits the client? Is it someone that has never held a fly rod before or someone who is a pro! What are there expectations about the day? Are they happy just to be there or is catching a fish their prime objective. Also the weather can dictate many things, river heights, access to lochs and safety when fishing from boats all need to be considered. And then there is always a plan B!

Lets just say there is a lot to think about when taking someone fishing in Scotland to get the most out of the day.

If like me you just love being outside and enjoying everything to do with fishing Scotland is the place for you. I concentrate all my fishing on roughly about a dozen place this allows me to get to know the lochs/rivers but most importantly the people who run them. Treating venues with respect and making sure they are left for the next person to enjoy. If this sounds like your thing get in touch and I will get planning your trip.

It really has been an amazing year and I have loads of plans for next year so watch this space. Below are a few pics from the last few weeks.

Remember everything is included in my trips. I organise everything myself so you can be sure its all done correctly and their is always a plan B! If you have an ideas and want to make it happen then let me know and we will work together to organise your ultimate Scotland Fishing Trip.
